Personal Description:
I received my masters degree in maths (with first class honors) from the University of Auckland in 2014, and went on to complete my Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2015. I have been teaching and tutoring maths and physics since 2011. Since getting my degree I have taught at University and private schools. In 2020 I worked with the company Desmos to create online activities to enhance the maths education experience for young New Zealanders :). Over the past few years I've studied extensively the best practices for delivering online education and use the best equipment and online education software.
Tutoring Experience:
My teaching experience spans over 12 years. In 2011, while still a University undergraduate I started tutoring high school and university mathematics. I worked for the University of Auckland as a tutor for small classes from 2011-2014. In 2013-14 I was the head tutor at The University of Auckland for MATHS108 and MATHS208.
In 2015 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics Education and went on to start a professional teaching career, teaching maths at Kristin School on the North Shore.
In 2018 I was the recipient of the Ernest Duncan Award, an award for the outstanding contribution for online maths education.
I now specialise in delivering online maths education and am an expert in the field. I'm very experienced in teaching the following:
- Year 6 - 10 maths
- NCEA L1-2 maths
- NCEA L3 Calculus
- NCEA L3 Statistics
- IBDP AASL/HL
- IBDP AISL/HL
- NCEA L2-3 Physics
Tutoring Approach:
I always try to be personable and build relationships with young students. In general I take an understanding approach to students, where I realise maths can be difficult and some people even have a phobia of it! I give students a chance to think for themselves and show me what they have learned. I'm a big believer in learning through worked examples and problems. I have a huge database of resources, which I utilize in lessons and expert professional equipment to support online tuition. I keep things fun and personable, especially for younger children, were we sometimes play learning games which I have amassed through my teaching career.
I deliver highly effective online math education and tutor online only. Prices are for online lessons.
