Personal Description:
I have been involved in language education for over 20 years with a Master's degree in Teaching Japanese and TESOL certificates. I am passionate about teaching languages and helping my students open up their world view. I also teach music… I absolutely love teaching! I am very motivated and motivating, very organised and attentive to my students' needs. I get on well with my students and I always try to make each lesson as fun, informative and motivating as possible.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught English in Japan, have taught Japanese from beginner level to advanced level at universities in the UK and in NZ and also at a Japanese language school in Japan, and have taught Japanese privately in NZ.
I teach conversational Japanese as well as JLPT and NCEA - my students have been succesful in those exams.
Tutoring Approach:
"Learning should be enjoyable" is my motto. Mastering a foreign language takes time so every step should be a fun experience so that students can continue their long journey of learning. Lessons I conduct are highly interactive and communicative where students can use what they have just learnt so that it will stay in their brain. I try and use as many fun games and communicative activities as possible in the lessons so that my students will get a chance to actually use and absorb the language they have learnt through those activities. I believe that learning cultural aspects is crucial for the student to fully understand our language so I provide information on Japanese culture, society and history during lessons.
