Personal Description:

I'm a head of a Mathematics department and previously an Assistant professor at a prestigious university in England. I have an Honours Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Diploma in Education. I enjoy helping people and anyone who gives 100%, I will give them 150% back.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 15 years of experience in teaching from primary school to undergraduate Engineers and Mathematicians. I specialise in ALevel and Further ALevel Mathematics and Level 2/3 NCEA Content. I have an excellent understanding of GCSE and L1 NCEA too, and I am part of the advisory school to the government on its rollout.

Tutoring Approach:

My strength is building confidence. I quickly recognise a student's strength and capitalise on that, building a picture of areas that would add to the repertoire to build a strong overall understanding. I believe that students need to take the steps on their own learning journey for it to be relevant and meaningful enough and so I ask many open questions to allow the student to guide the problem solving.

With my background in Mathematics, I can incrementally increase the scaffolding as necessary, to explain things at ever increasing magnitudes of guidance. My strong background also allows me to see the merit in alternative solutions to the more typical or common methods, thereby building confidence and self-belief in the student. I believe in homework, and based on the main areas in the lesson, will provide key questions to work on for the next lesson.
