Personal Description:

My name is David and am currently in my 3rd year of my Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. I graduated from King's College, Auckland in 2022 after completing the Cambridge A-levels with A* grade for all four of my subjects (History, English Literature, Maths, Chemistry, Biology). After graduating, I flew to Melbourne, Australia to commence by Bachelor's degree where I have maintained a weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 88, with the majority of my studies focusing on subjects related to biology, biochemistry, human physiology and biological statistical maths. In 2026, I will be studying a Master's of Dietetics to become a Registered Dietician.

Unlike most tutors who see this as just a job, I am genuinely passionate about helping others with the knowledge that I have. This will to service is what has kept me tutoring all the way till now, even in University, and is also what motivates me to become a Registered Dietician in the future.

Although I mostly tutor maths, I scored 96% in A-Level English Literature in high school and that was my highest mark out of all of my subjects. Additionally, I have been freelance writing for the past few years and write a nutrition newsletter. As such, please don't hesitate to request for English Literature in particular.

Tutoring Experience:

I have an abundance of experience that lets me work well with many students. I have privately tutored English and Maths, with a sprinkling of Chemistry and Biology, for the past 5 years, working with students from ages as young as 8 up to 18. I also had over 45 hours of community service tutoring for my high school. Additionally, I have a Diploma in Communication Skills under the Trinity College of London Institution.

I also have been working as a presenter going to schools across Victoria, Australia for Elevate Education to help kids with their studies and time management for the past year.

This means that every week, I am either privately tutoring or speaking to whole classrooms of students of various ages from intermediate to high school.

Tutoring Approach:

I will adjust my approach depending on what the student prefers, but I generally find a more casual approach works the best. I try to help students not feel intimidated coming into lessons, and give them a chance at questions and concepts before I give them a bit of a helping hand. As I'm a University student, I can relate to them quite well and just starting with a couple of minutes chatting about school or life (if desired) before jumping into things helps ease them into it.

I encourage my students to think first before I give any solutions, as I want my students to learn how to think as well.

If the student has work or questions they'd like to cover that day, I'm happy to help with anything that's come up recently even if there is no prior notice. But I do appreciate it when students give me a heads up about what they want me to help them with. Otherwise, I prepare some potential questions and topics we could cover if the student feels like everything else is going smoothly in schools.

I also like to focus on revision throughout the year, as this saves students from cramming everything right before an exam.
