Personal Description:
Please Note: I have evening availabilities once again on Tuesdays and Fridays. Contact soon, as things tend to fill up quickly.
I am an accomplished, articulate, and passionate teacher and writer. I have extensive experience in tutoring and mentoring students of all ages, and I am confident in my abilities to impart my skill set and knowledge to my students. Originally from Canada, I relocated to Dunedin in 2016 with my small family, and moved up here to Lower Hutt in May 2020. When I'm not reading or playing with my two young daughters, you can find me running around at the beach or feverishly writing a new story. Drop me a line and say hello - I love to meet new people!
I am currently only accepting clients who reside in NZ.
Tutoring Experience:
I have extensive teaching experience, particularly at the university and college level. I was a Professor of Composition throughout my Master's degree, which challenged me to lead a class of students from all walks of academia under the umbrella of learning to compose essays in English. This honed my teaching skills, and taught me to handle students with significantly varying learning abilities and preferences. I was also a tutor for various papers in English Literature during this time, therefore I am very comfortable with a large range of topics, periods, and authors in the English Literature canon. Additionally, I was a mentor for the Montreal-based Big Brothers, Big Sisters (Prometheus Project) for several years, which included tutoring secondary students. I was also an administrator and English tutor for Kumon Montreal for two years, and a primary school relief teacher for three years. This array of experience coupled with my calm but determined teaching style, has equipped me to help anyone who wishes to upgrade their reading and writing skills.
Tutoring Approach:
I am offer an exclusive, tailor-made, student-centred approach to online tutoring. This is geared primarily towards secondary students who are having trouble with writing or reading overall. Done entirely online through Zoom and Google Docs, we will set aside the student's classroom work in order to home in on their own writing, driven entirely by their own interests. We can analyse a favourite book or story or, if the student is less keen on reading, we can look at movies, TV shows, music, or any other content that captures the student's interest, and that they want to sink their analytical teeth into. I've had a lot of success with this approach recently, and I've found that the writing skills I teach through student-centred learning are highly transferable to their academic schoolwork. Contact me ASAP if you're interested in this approach; I have a limited number of slots available for this type of tutoring.
General information on my approach to tutoring:
I am comfortable teaching a wide range of subjects, and I consider essay writing to be my specialty. My approach to all tutoring relationships is based on trust, mutual respect, and a desire to achieve excellent outcomes. I believe that the foundation for a successful life in any field is the ability to read, write and speak effectively, and I am so happy to help my students to achieve this goal. When we first meet, I will ask you about your individual learning style and preferences, your goals, and your trepidations. Together, we will make a plan that incorporates your learning style with my teaching methods so that we can proceed steadily towards your goals whilst mitigating any worries or difficulties you may have. I am approachable, kind, and very good at setting people at ease.

Ashley is outstanding with her students, allowing flexibility to compliment the in-school studies while also expanding his abilities, writing and thinking. He always been a good, top level student, and Ashley has helped him refine his work, think critically and exceed even more in the IB studies he is doing.
I highly recommend Ashley to anyone considering her as a tutor and hope for a long term tutoring relationship with our family.

You do a great job as a tutor. The thing I most appreciate is, you pay attention to understand student's level and needs, and provide the service accordingly. I'm thankful for constructive feedback you provide in each session. It helps me to identify the areas that I need to focus more to be fluent in English.
I really feel comfortable to learn with you.
Many thanks for that.
