Information About Rachel - Celbridge tutor

Personal Description:

I completed my undergraduate degree in 2022, during which I studied English, Philosophy, Anthropology and Gender Studies. English was my own favourite subject in secondary school and I enjoy talking with current students about all aspects of the course from Shakespeare to poetry. Since finishing my degree I did an additional course in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which greatly helped me develop a variety of tutoring skills and resources. Currently I work as a childminder during the day, which I love!

Tutoring Experience:

I am passionate about education and intend to go back to college to qualify as a teacher. In the meantime I am taking opportunities where I can gain some teaching experience - including offering grinds! I have had very positive feedback from past grinds students and look forward to helping some new students, during what I know can be a very stressful and overwhelming time.

Approach to Grinds:

I believe in taking the student's lead, and working with them to assess what areas are causing them the most difficulty. I enjoy working creatively with the students to find ways to improve these struggle areas and support them towards reaching their individual goals.

I offer an initial free meeting with students via video call, so that they can see whether I am the right fit for them, and also so I can gather some information and start thinking about what approach will suit the student best. Typically I work on one area of the course at a time, focusing of course on the content and supplying the student with quality notes that they understand and can utilise in their study, but also making sure the student is comfortable with the exam paper.

I personally found secondary school exams very overwhelming and really empathise with Leaving Cert students and the pressure they can be under, so my hope with the type of grinds I offer would be to help students feel more confident in their English abilities and provide a time where they can make progress with their studies without feeling like I am adding to their workload. Most of all I would hope to be a good support to the students I work with, and help them ultimately arrive at their exam more comfortable with the content of the LC English course, more self-assured about their own abilities, and more prepared to perform well on the paper and showcase all their hard work.
