Information About Orlaith - Athy tutor

Personal Description:

Hi There, my name is Orlaith and i am 23 years old.
I am currently completing a masters in education (post primary) in University College Dublin having previously studied Business Management in Maynooth as my undergrad. Throughout my undergrad, i had the opportunity to work for a year as placement - i completed my placement in a company called SAP in Citywest. This experience has helped me so much in terms of figuring out where i wanted my career to go.
I have always wanted to become a teacher, so i was delighted to be accepted into the masters in education.

Tutoring Experience:

I am currently teaching in a mixed school in Athy and have been teaching in this school since September 2019.
Going forward, i have secured my second years placement in an all boys school in county Carlow.

I also have experience with grinds, as i set up a two grinds groups - 3rd and 5th years. I have also done one-on-one grinds - however, it suited the students to work in groups throughout the year so we went with the group option.

Outside of teaching, i have worked in many different jobs from the age of 15. At 25, i secured my first part time job having completed a work placement in a hotel. As i have worked from a young age, i do not lack the working ethic and i think that shows in my teaching also.

Approach to Grinds:

I like to keep my grinds active and relevant. I am organised and always have a plan in place.
I start by asking what the students want as an outcome i.e. what they want their grade to be/ what aspect they want to improve.
We, together, will then try reach their goal - that is whats most important.

In terms of my approach to teaching, i like to use real, relevant examples to enforce theory. I also believe that practice does make perfect in relation to any accounting aspects of Business. Finally, i understand that every student learns differently, so we will work together to figure out what study approach suits the student best.
