Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher and have taught English to students at Second and Third level for the last ten years. I am passionate about helping others to unlock their potential and achieve their goals. My experience in teaching has helped me to understand that all students are capable, and often only require practical advice and patient instruction to develop confidence in their own ability. I have a proven track record and will be fully committed to any student I mentor.
I have completed my PhD (on Irish literature) in English. Example of writing: "1916: The Challenge of Cultural Nationalism", Irish Examiner 01-02-16 **Web Address Removed**)
Tutoring Experience:
I was a lecturer in English Literature in Dublin City University (All Hallows College)NUI Maynooth (Including adults returning to education) and have tutored students at Second Level for ten years. I have experience teaching English Literature, History, and Religion, as well as coaching students on writing techniques and study skills (useful for all disciplines). I have worked with students with many different needs and learning styles and I continually try to evolve a technique that will help each individual develop. I now manage an education programme for a charity in Dublin city, but continue to take one or two students each term.
Approach to Grinds:
Tuition is something I do because I enjoy it. I am passionate about English Literature and I have helped students to achieve excellent results over the years. I believe every student is unique; I will endeavour to treat each individual with respect and will work toward creating a learning environment that suits her/his needs.Experience has taught me that students achieve great things when given time, encouragement, and the opportunity to voice their own ideas. I will give an honest opinion, after the first few sessions, as to where I think a student is at, in terms of grades, and where I believe they could achieve with work and my guidance.
