Personal Description:

Mairéad anseo. I am an experienced and highly qualified, secondary school teacher currently on carer's leave. I have a first class honours HDip (as Gaeilge), 1st class honours in B.A. Irish exams. Critically, I also have 10 years experience teaching the Irish syllabus to students across the ability and age range at Secondary School. At the moment, I am looking after my elderly Mum and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be able to help students out. An enthusiastic Gaeilgeoir, I produce and present "Ar Mhuin na Muice" for Near 90.3rfm every Monday. I am delighted to have the skills and experience to be able to help people out…

Tutoring Experience:

I am a very experienced teacher. As part of my teaching in Secondary School, I have done work for the Exam Commission as an examiner. Most importantly, I have experience in helping students to iron out the difficulties that cause last minute panic before exams. Teachers up and down the Country who have done work for the Exam Commission will tell you that the vast majority of exam students get stuck in the same areas; How to structure essays, apply learning in practice (the verb, the use of 'Is'), remember the sequence of events and the role of the various characters in the prose and for instance, "An Triail". I have also extensive experience in tutoring third level students especially those doing the B.Ed for Primary Teaching. I really enjoy taking students through the syllabus and helping them to get the most out of their studies.

Approach to Grinds:

I have a student-centred approach and look to meet a student's learning needs. In the first instance, I undertake an initial assessment. Critically, I identify strengths and help students to build on what is going right so as to develop positive further learning opportunities. One of the most worthwhile experiences I have as a teacher is helping students to develop insight in learning how to help themselves. At the last stage in the exam year, often the initial assessment is the most valuable in helping students to make the most of prior learning and enable best performance.
