Information About Maela - Maigh Cuilinn tutor

Personal Description:

Hi, My name is Maela, I'm from An Spidéal, a gaeltacht area in Galway. I grew up in a bilingual household and I from a very early age I was fascinated by languages. I studied French in University as well as Geography, and moved to France for a few years after to really intergrate and learn the language confidently.
I'm a very creative person. I play the banjo, I paint, I write and I love reading. I'm a sports enthusiast, I've played many sports but right now I'm focussing on running and hiking I've just ran a half marathon and I climbed Kilimanjaro last summer.
I'm a people's person, I'm very social, warm and positive. I come from a very big family who loves the craic so I'm fun with a good sense of humor.

Tutoring Experience:

Most recently I've taught in language programs in NUIG during the summer. This summer I worked with Future Learning as an English/Art teacher. I created all my lessons and delivered them accordingly. I spend two years teaching english at university level in France, while giving grinds over there to people of all ages/levels. I've been giving grinds since I left school, mostly in Irish and French. At current I teach in a language school as well as teaching irish online. I've taught for exam, business and conversational/casual purposes.

Approach to Grinds:

Given my experience teaching different nationalities and cultures I believe that I've become very empathetic as a teacher. I understand that everyone has different needs, strengths and weaknesses. I'm great at highlighting your individual strengths and working on your weaknesses while adapting to your needs with regards to the learning process.
My creativity and energy is something I bring to my lessons. The lessons I create are fun, dynamic, engaging and most importantly effective. I try to build on the individuals confidence as I think you can't learn a language without speaking it, and you can't speak it without confidence. As the seanfhocal says - Beatha teanga í a labhairt.
