Personal Description:

With my mother Irish and my father German, I was brought up bilingual in Berlin and have equal fluency in English and German.

I have an M.A. in English Philology, Prehistorical Archaeology and Classical Archaeology from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. During my studies, I was awarded an Erasmus scholarship for the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where I studied English & Scottish Literature.

Besides having lived in Scotland, I have also lived for extended periods of time in New Zealand, Japan, Canada and Austria.

I am an international Certified Professional Coach (CPC) working with young individuals and young professionals.

Tutoring Experience:

I am an experienced tutor in both English and German.

I offer grinds on a one-to-one basis to Senior Cycle & University students in Ireland and to secondary school students in Germany.

The focus of my work with Senior Cycle students lies in listening comprehension, reading, writing, grammar and speaking. One of my areas of expertise is preparing my students for their Leaving Certificate exams in German in both the written and the oral form.

I offer University students conversation classes. In these sessions they have the opportunity to converse in German with a German native speaker. The topics of these conversation are chosen by the students.

The idea behind these conversation classes is to prepare and support students in transitioning into a potential life and/or career in Germany. This can be moving to Germany for a gap semester, a gap year or indeed for work experience.

In Germany I support secondary school students in their English and German studies. I prepare them for their “MSA” (German Junior Certificate) and for their “Abitur” (German Leaving Certificate).

Approach to Grinds:

My sessions are well-structured and tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of my students.

While listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar are always part of each of my sessions, I do make sure to pay special attention to the areas in which my students feel that they are struggling.

I love supporting my students in taking ownership for their learning successes and in feeling at home in a foreign language.

For me one of the keys to successful learning is having fun while doing so.
