Information About Ian - Kildare tutor

Personal Description:

I am a secondary school teacher based in Kildare. I am a fanatical lover of history and bring that with me into the classroom and while tutoring. I hold a degree in history, a Masters in Military history and a Professional Masters in Education.

Tutoring Experience:

I am teaching post primary history over four years in a full time position. I teach history up to third year at the moment, very successfully and I have experience teaching both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle history.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to grinds is to firstly establish what the students knows in terms of the curriculum. Once I have ascertained this I then design grinds to develop this learning and to build up confidence within the student for the subject. My grinds will encompass revision of the text, course work to further develop learning, practicing of people in history questions and activity based learning. I also encourage students to learn through visual aids such as videos, music or photographs which ties in closely with practising for the document and picture based questions for the Junior Cycle exam.

In terms of Senior Cycle history my approach is to help students develop confidence in their own abilities and to build resilience in terms of revision and the completion of the exam. I have assisted student through grinds in the past for the senior cycle exams and within that context I guided and assisted students with their projects and with over all exam revision. Similar to junior cycle grinds, senior cycle students will be guided in terms of the exam paper, the completion of the different sections and the writing of essays.
