Personal Description:
My name is Ellen. I am a final year student in Mary Immaculate College doing a degree in Primary Teaching and Psychology. I am an open, approachable person that helps students to break down content-heavy subjects into manageable chunks. I am passionate about Gaeilge. I have taught online Irish grinds for the last 4 years and have helped to coach students towards achieving their goals in JC/LC Irish.
I have attended Gaeltacht courses since secondary school and am an active member of a Cumann Gaelach, which has helped me to acquire a high level of spoken Irish.
I also excel at helping others to write high quality essays in English and History and am willing to provide grinds and extremely high quality notes in these subjects, both of which I also achieved a H1 in my Leaving Cert.
I am almost finished my teaching degree with the Irish Board of Speech and Drama, which has helped me to foster an enhanced appreciation of poetry and literature, as well as the ability to equip students with skills to present themselves in CBA tasks for Junior Cycle.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 4 years experience tutoring a wide variety of levels in online Irish grinds - ranging from 1st year all the way up to Leaving Cert, at both higher and ordinary levels. I have taken students for LC French and English grinds also.
I am experienced in working with students one to one to identify their needs and goals, devise a plan to achieve them and achieve success in their state exams. I believe that grinds are most effective when the teacher is someone who understands the pressure of the Leaving Cert in modern years and can equip students with support that is tailored to their specific needs, instead of being one student of many in a large group grinds session in a study centre.
I also have experience teaching all curriculum subjects to primary school children from all class levels and working with students with ASD, ADHD and Dyslexia.
Approach to Grinds:
I offer one-to-one online grinds where students can improve their approach to learning Irish, devise a plan for managing their Irish study and learn from top-quality notes that are tailored to meet the learning needs and goals of each student. I am open to tutoring students in English and History also.
Being a student that sat state exams not so long ago, I understand how important study skills and efficient planning are and endeavour to make content accessible for students and to equip them with my knowledge of successful exam techniques.
I teach students using a combination of going through my own personal notes which helped me to achieve a H1 grade in all subjects when I sat my Leaving Cert, providing them with excercises to improve their understanding of grammar and key information, translation work, going through my new notes written to answer the latest past and pre-exam questions and conducting mock oral exams/CBAs with them to work on the oral component of exams. I also correct exam questions that students send to me and offer detailed feedback with all corrections.
My notes are comprehensive, easy to learn from and are written to a high standard ( as a H1 grade student that continues to achieve high grades in Irish exams). I keep updated on the latest current affairs in Irish and provide students with broken-down summary notes of this, to prepare them for challenging questions they may face in their oral/listening/reading comprehensions.
