Personal Description:
I'm a childcare manager that has just finished college studying Theoretical Physics. I have a passion for teaching and tutoring focusing on Leaving Cert students as I am 23 years old. I am always patient and empathetic with my students, being convinced that a good personal relationship is the key point for a students' success.
Tutoring Experience:
I have had many grinds students in the past few years, teaching Maths and Physics at both a Leaving Cert and Junior Cert level. My students have always gotten a better understanding of the material and their grades have consistently improved during my teaching period.
I have much experience with secondary school tutoring, having had upwards of 40 studetns over the past 4 years, giving particular attention to each and ensuring they excel at their subject. This has included Junior and Leaving Cert maths of all levels and any learning difficulties a student has had.
I currently work at an afterschool care for primary school children where as part of the job I'd have to help the kids with their homework. I would have to be patient and help the kids to understand how the subject works, which when they finally completed I feel very accomplished with myself.
I have much experience with online teaching using Zoom during the pandemic and have found what works and what doesn't from my own experience with previoius students. It is still a common choice of my students that live farther away to do online grinds which I find are equally as successful.
Approach to Grinds:
I am open and experienced in both in-person and online grinds and have felt progress in my students on either method.
For online grinds, we use Zoom facilities to discuss and understand topics, to send over notes and to screen-share, which allows me to write out solutions to different problems and show them to the student. I can also email them material to work on.
For in person grinds, I arrive at the students house at a prescheduled time and for the hour or so we have our heads to the books, focusing on homework problems, exam questions, or topics they're struggling with in class.
I find that if you struggle with maths, it's not that you're bad at maths, rather that you have a poor teacher, so the first grind will be to begin a good relationship with the student. It will also be an assessment grind for me to see what level of ability they are at, nothing scary, just some small problems on a particular topic so I can prepare according to the student's understanding.
Once I am aware of the student's ability we can start studying topics in the subject they are struggling with or follow along with the teacher in class. I will provide unique sample questions that we will solve together until the student solves them independently. I will also provide personalised condensed notes on each topic (you can see some of my maths ones in my resources provided). Additionally, throughout the week I am open to answer any problems the student has come across that they need help with outside of the grind setting, free of charge. I can also provide a homework sheet regularly but I often find students are already overwhelmed with homework so I usually don't.
