Information About Christina - Clonee tutor

Personal Description:

I am currently on a career break having spent 20+ years in teaching. Before that I worked as an actuary. I have qualifications in maths, applied maths and computing. The career break is allowing me to spend more time with my extended family and indulge my passion for painting portraits. As a qualified teacher, I am fully registered with the Teaching Council, including Garda vetting.

Tutoring Experience:

I have spent most of my life teaching maths in one form or another. I have worked with all age groups and all levels from working with adults learning basic numeracy skills through to preparing university students for calculus exams. I have lectured undergraduate trainee maths teachers. I have taught Leaving Cert. Higher level maths in a number of schools. I have also delivered it to students from DEIS schools through Bite (a charity based in Ballymun) and through a volunteer service provided by the Society of Actuaries. I have experience as an examiner for the mock exams with both ExamCraft and DEB and have worked as an examiner with the SEC. I have served on the committee of the Irish Maths Teachers Association and continue to be a branch member.

Approach to Grinds:

Maths is the kind of subject where it is important to understand one thing, before you can learn the next thing. Students often have gaps in their knowledge or understanding - they may have been absent the day that was taught, or perhaps they have switched classes, or for many other reasons. My approach is to broadly work on the same topics as being covered in the classroom, ensuring understanding, linking to and building on existing knowledge. Mastery of many topics comes through practice, other topics through memorisation. Students will prepare for exams using past papers and detailed notes where required.
