Personal Description:
I am a freelance musician and teacher with an undergraduate and masters degree in Music. My main passions in life are music and teaching. I have performed and taught at renowned festivals and institutions in Ireland and worldwide. Most recently, I lived in New York for three years (2015-2018) where I taught at the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan and played with the Tony Award winning, Grammy-nominated show, Come From Away on Broadway in NYC. When I returned to Ireland, I decided to move away from full-time music and pursue my passion for teaching by applying for the Professional Master’s in Education at Marino Institute of Education (an associated college of Trinity College Dublin). I am currently halfway through this primary teacher training programme, and have received first class honours for my first year. I am looking to help anyone who might need extra tuition over the summer holidays due to school closures.
Tutoring Experience:
Primary School:
-Have worked as a substitute teacher in a DEIS Gaelscoil over the past year
-Have worked as a substitute teacher in Woodstock Day School and in Huguenot Street Cooperative School (both in upstate New York)
-Have completed two mainstream school placements and one special education placement in Ireland during my Masters degree. Experienced in preparing and teaching all primary school subjects.
-Have also taught tin whistle and flute to primary school aged children for the past decade.
-Am fluent in Irish (attended a Gaelscoil for both primary and secondary school, and took Irish as a module during my undergraduate degree).
Music teaching and essay-writing:
-Have taught instrumental music classes to people of all ages on flute and tin whistle (Irish traditional music). Very experienced teaching one-to-one, in groups, and over Skype or Zoom.
-Tutored in University College Dublin (Music Theory tutor and Music, Culture and Society tutor). Corrected 100+ essays for undergraduate music students. Prepared and taught music theory tutorials to first year music students.
-Lectured on my thesis topic (Irish traditional music) to undergraduate students at UCD.
-Have given masterclasses on Irish traditional music topics at the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan.
Approach to Grinds:
My approach is to tailor the class to the student’s needs, while keeping specific goals in mind to achieve results. I break down curriculum topics into manageable chunks and work with the student to move towards their goals in an engaging and motivating way.
