Personal Description:

I am passionate about teaching English and have always enjoyed fostering a love of literature and writing in my students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 25 years experience teaching Higher Level English to Leaving Certificate classes and to those who opted to repeat the Leaving Certificate. I have taught both co educational classes and single sex classes in two schools where I was employed. I have private tuition one to one experience working with Leaving Certificate students who wanted to improve their grade in English and other subjects such as Biology and History where the standard of expression in English contributes to the overall grade awarded.
I hold an excellent track record of results and have corrected for the States Exams Commission

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to tutoring is to establish from the beginning the areas of the course where a student feels most confident and equally most unsure. In general it has been my experience that most students need assistance with structure and the "how" of answering a question. It is critical at Leaving Certificate Higher Level English to understand and know the difference between summation and analysis and to develop one's one voice and answering style rather than simply regurgitating learned off generic material. I focus on ensuring that students have a comprehensive understanding of the set course literature while devising notes that provide succinct analysis
I set weekly written exercises which I correct and return with both qualitative and quantitative feedback where we set goals for improvement.
The most important element of tutoring is building a positive student teacher relationship where we work as a team to improve grades and build confidence.
