Personal Description:
Hi everyone! I'm Aoife, I'm a graduate of Applied Languages and later a MA of Modern Language Studies, both from UL. I have over 5 years of teaching experience and have taught at primary, post primary and university levels. My passion is languages,in particular French and Spanish, as I lived and worked as a teacher in Seville for nearly two years. I have experience teaching a range of levels, so I ensure all of my students' needs are catered for and that the lesson can be tailored to what they want to work on. I'm really easy to get along with, have first hand experience of what it can be like to learn a foreign language and I'm happy to share the tips and tricks I've learned over the years!
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 5 years of teaching experience, both in Ireland and abroad. I worked as junior Spanish lecturer for first year students at UL, while undertaking my Master's degree and also tutored French for a small group of undergraduates at the university. I then went on to work as an English teacher in Spain, where I taught a range of ages over a year and half. Each one of these roles has taught me the importance of tailoring lessons to the needs of the students, and as a former language student myself, I can understand the difficulties that students may face when learning a foreign language.
Approach to Grinds:
Given the current situation with Covid - 19, I will be doing online classes only.
In terms of my approach to grinds, I listen to what the students themselves want and need help with and make a plan from there. If a student is struggling with pronunciation, for example, then I will go through which aspects in particular they would like to work on and tailor the lesson around that. I think it's really important to feel comfortable with the person giving you grinds as well, so I like to share my own experience and make the student feel at ease. The lesson is also a place to ask questions, so I welcome all students to ask me things they perhaps feel uncomfortable asking in a classroom! Looking forward to hearing from you :)
