Personal Description:
I sat my Leaving Cert in 2018, and I'm offering grinds for some of the subjects in which I received H1's. I received 7H1's in the L.C… with a result of 625 points, and I have a strong understanding of effective methods for achieving high grades in the exams. I went on to study Economics & Spanish in Trinity College Dublin, and this further strengthened my ability to critically analyse academic techniques, and explain them to others clearly and efficiently.
I have a passion for teaching, as well as a lot of experience with different teaching methods, and I am able to adapt to suit each individual student's needs and level of knowledge as a result.
Tutoring Experience:
I first taught grinds in Maths & French while in University as a tutor with the Voluntary Tuition Programme in Trinity. Since then, I have worked as a Spanish teacher at multiple summer schools for Junior & Leaving Cert levels, and most recently I taught English as a second language to students of all ages in the Galway Cultural Institute.
Outside the world of formal education, I volunteer as a facilitator at intercultural learning workshops with an Irish charity. I teach hundreds of exchange students about Irish culture each year, and I work with partner organisations across Europe training other volunteers and staff in facilitation and teaching methods.
Approach to Grinds:
I have multiple years of teaching experience with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill level, and I know that the most important thing for learning any subject is that the teaching methods used fit the student's needs. I work hard to find the teaching style that works best for my students, whether it be conversational, problem-focused, practical/theory centred, or many more.
I know from personal experience how important it is to understand the marking schemes used in exams, not just the theory, and I always centre my teaching around the end goal of study. If you're studying for the Leaving Cert, for example, you don't just need good French, you need to be able to make your good French fit what the examiner wants.
I make sure to encourage an open discussion with my students, so they feel comfortable asking any questions they have, or being honest when they're struggling with a topic.
