Personal Description:
Hi there! My name is Alisha. I am currently studying to be a primary school teacher in Ireland. I also studied Spanish and French for 8 years, 2 of which were at a university level. I work as a substitute teacher during the academic year, and I also travel to teach English abroad, which I really enjoy. I am currently living in Poland working as an English teacher, and I love to travel. I have been a substitute teacher in senior levels of primary school, such as fifth and sixth class, and this year I did my Professional Placement for my degree in Junior Infants. I love being a teacher, and working one on one with people to reach personal goals and target individual weaknesses and challenges they might face. I was also a volunteer Karate coach for six years. My favourite subject to work with people on is Irish, especially focusing on those trickier grammar elements and oral language to maximise your overall competency with the language. I received a H1 in Irish for the leaving certificate.
Tutoring Experience:
I work part-time as a substitute teacher during the academic year. I have taught a wide range of levels in primary school, from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, and I am able to tailor learning needs to all levels of experience and age differences. I am currently working in Poland teaching English as a second language to children, teenagers, and adults, so all grinds would be online via video call until September. I have also undertaken Professional Placement in Primary Schools as part of my current degree, a Bachelor of Education at Dublin City University.
Approach to Grinds:
I believe in a tailored approach to grinds. Communication is absolutely key for me to be able to give you the best experience. Before giving grinds, I like to discuss what specifically people want to get out of these lessons, whether it is primary school students who are catching up on some work from school, Junior and Leaving Certificate students preparing for oral exams or State Examinations, or adult learners looking to learn a language. For teaching English as an additional language to adult learners, I prefer to teach English using English-only as a means of communication between myself and the student, however I would be comfortable working with Spanish speakers with a small amount of Spanish used during the lesson for translation purposes. I also like to make sure that we are doing as much talking as possible together during language lessons, to improve speaking ability and confidence. I like to build a student's confidence in a language, and believe in creating a positive learning atmosphere, where mistakes and challenges are accepted and improved on as part of learning.
