Personal Description:
My name is Alice. I am a third year student in Trinity College Dublin, studying earth system science.
I went to two all Irish boarding schools in the Gaeltacht, one in the Gaeltacht 'An Rinn' and another in the Gaeltacht "Corca Dhuibhne'. Following my language immersion opportunities, I was able to achieve the highest grade in the leaving cert for Irish (H1 grade).
I still continue to develop my language skills and learning of the language by choosing extra Irish electives and modules within my university. I am also active in the Irish society at my university.
I have a love for the language and spend a lot of my summers working as a waitress in the Gaeltacht to this day. By working with native speakers in the Gaeltacht I was able to foster an understanding of not only the language but the culture and nuances associated with native speakers.
I enjoy speaking in Irish with friends and family and hope to one day use it in my career somehow.
Tutoring Experience:
I teach grinds to students for the past 6 months and really enjoy it. My passion for the language inspires my students and pushes them to learn. I like to think that if you are enjoying something, that reflects in your teaching. I always give a 100% so as to maximise the students learning in the short time frame we have together.
I recently quit my part time job as a waitress so as to give my full time and attention to the Irish grinds. I truly understand the difference between enjoying your work and not, after giving Irish grinds for the past 6 months. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to do something I enjoy and I am passionate about and I notice such a difference in my work performance when working in a field I have love and passion for.
Approach to Grinds:
I can have a flexible approach to grinds, of course. If the student wishes to steer the class it is completely up to them.
However, I do have a structured lesson plan that I usually like to follow so as to maximise our time together. I use notes from the time I was in 6th class up until university and I will be sharing these notes along the way with the student.
In relation to my exam approach, I follow the syllabus from that specific year and I always try and incorporate exam techniques so as to prepare the student for the ultimate goal.
