Personal Description:
I am a PhD graduate in English Studies who has been teaching English literature and communication skills for the past 13 years of my career. I have had the experience to teach one-on-one at home and in a classroom setting at colleges and universities in Canada and abroad.
Tutoring Experience:
My students have ranged from teenagers in high school to adults who are interested in learning ESL and academic writing. I have been teaching undergraduates at university literature courses and writing skills (academic and creative) . I also tutor students who attend college and wish to get better at English writing and English speaking.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that my approach in tutoring has been guided by active learning and critical analysis. I believe the objective of the tutor is to be a smart mediator who finds the best and most suitable methods to relay knowledge and experience to every particular student. Once this is established, the learning process comes in the form of a dialogue that turns into a critique and an analysis of language (grammar, syntax. semantics) before becoming the learned material. Nonetheless, a major condition to tutoring for me is to communicate with the student in the language and subject matter of his/her interests and in a respectful and very patient manner.
