Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Vivian and I am a recent IB Diploma graduate student going into the faculty of science at the University of British Columbia. I took Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the IB program and am familiar with teaching or tutoring these subjects. Currently, I tutor students in grades K-11.

Tutoring Experience:

Besides experience in the IB program, I have previous teaching experience as a Science 9 and 10 teacher at BC Children and Youth Society, UBC Geering Up Junior Instructor for STEAM Grades 2-3, Teacher Assistant for Innovation Grades 1-2, Ballet Instructor for K-1, and teaching Jewelry Making Preteens: 9-13 and Stop Motion Animation.

Tutoring Approach:

As a mentor, I hope to provide a safe space where there is no judgment to ask lots of questions or any pressure to understand the material immediately. Every learner learns differently, and I believe learning is a process, so it is okay to take it slow, follow your own pace, and create your own connections that help you learn!

As a student, I understand the struggle of not understanding a topic and would love to help out in any way. I don't want to stress students with homework or give more on top of what they already have, so after each lesson, I will only provide practice questions per student preference if they want extra practice.
Typical lesson plans will depend on the needs of the student. Whether that be teaching to get ahead on school material or going over confusing questions, I am adaptable to your learning preferences.

Preferably, any material or topics that you wish to go over in class are sent at least one day beforehand so I have time to prepare an effective individual-guided learning experience for you.
