Personal Description:
I am a grade 12 Honor Roll student at Bayview Secondary School pursuing my International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Having been involved in a plethora of extracurriculars, ranging from academic competitions to volunteerism to sports teams, I actively seek to share my knowledge and experiences with others, providing a fresh, engaging, and interesting perspective to learn from.
I am highly adept at the Sciences, English, and Economics through my extensive studies of these subjects at higher level in the IB programme. Through my strong academic performance, numerous extracurriculars awards, and lively personal character, I have received offers to study a B.S. of Medical Science from Western University and a 4-year Masters of Science in Biology from Oxford University, University College London and Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, however, I have decided that I will be attending the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League Institution, with scholarship next year as 1 of 25 students selected to study at the Roy and Diana Vagelos Program in Life Sciences and Management, earning a B.A. in Biochemistry from the College of Arts and Sciences and a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of Business.
Tutoring Experience:
I have extensive tutoring experience as a volunteer tutor at my school, helping students from applied, academic, enriched, and individual education plan streams improve their marks and develop sustainable study habits in courses such as Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, and English. Additionally, I have edited many of my peers’ university application essays, helping them gain acceptance to their top choice programs by providing advice on how to showcase their strengths and character in their writing.
Tutoring Approach:
Through my experiences, I find an individualized and goal-oriented approach to education works well when coupled with a program that develops initiative and self-reflection. Though tutoring sessions for different subjects will have slightly different structures, I generally start off with a refresher of what was learned in the last session. This is followed by interactive and hands-on teaching and practice of new content. Finally, I conclude with a review of material learned during the session and provide goals the tutee should aim for the next time I meet with them. I am committed to seeing my tutees grow, adapt, and succeed and I would be more than happy to answer questions that arise and provide additional support between tutoring sessions through a social media platform of your choice.
