Personal Description:
Tom is a PhD Graduate who is working as an ESL Instructor at the university level. He enjoys tutoring because it tends to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience. When he is not working, he is helping to look after his two kids, and he likes to write fiction (mainly just for fun).
Tutoring Experience:
Currently, Tom is tutoring ESL graduate students who require support for their writing. In the past, he was the Assistant Director and Writing Specialist of the Learning Centre at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh.
Tutoring Approach:
Tom's experience and research into tutoring has led him to believe that slightly different approaches are necessary for each student. Overall though, however, respect for the learner is the key element to good tutoring. Every person has the ability to improve as a writer; they just need to be placed in a position where they can understand what they need to do and how that is possible.
