Information About Thomas
Oshawa tutorPersonal Description:
Hi! My name is Thomas, but most people call me Tomi (like “tow-me”). Since graduating from university, most of my interests are satisfied through watching educational YouTube videos. The fields that I consider myself qualified to teach are the areas that I've spent many years learning about. I’ve spent many long nights learning about these subjects to what I believe is a significant degree.
These include various areas throughout engineering and technology, specifically related to electrical, computer, programming, and of course mathematics. If you’re not a fan of math – take it from me – not only can you get much better at it, it can even become a fun hobby of yours in the future!
Also note that while I can help with computer skills, I don’t have much formal IT related knowledge (for e.g… I don't know any Java or Javascript). My programming experience is limited to C and C variant languages (for e.g… Arduino, Embedded C, MATLAB) as well as Linux, Bash, MIPS Assembly, and Verilog (but I'm not good enough to tutor Verilog). I am currently learning HTML, PHP, and CSS on my journey to web design and development.
Tutoring Experience:
I do not have any significant formal/professional tutoring experience, but have always helped my pears understand topics where they've struggled. This was for classes we were both in, as well as classes I’ve taken in the past. I’ve also helped my roommates understand more basic subjects (to me) such as mathematics. I’m a fan of learning with groups, and while in university went so far as to buy a large whiteboard to facilitate this learning/teaching experience.
Tutoring Approach:
The whole point is to learn something, which means something you didn’t already know, and connect it to something we already understand. However, everyone is patchy with respect to what they know around a subject. So, I believe it’s far simpler to start from the ground and work our way up. Tell me what you want, and I’ll do my best to help you understand.
If you don’t understand, tell me and we'll step back. If you’re bored, tell me and we’ll move forward. Communication is key.
