Information About Teo
Hamilton tutorPersonal Description:
Hello!
I'm Teo. I'm 21, queer, mixed Indigenous, Irish, and Scottish, and neurodivergent. I'm a musician and artist.
From childhood I have had a very large interest in language and reading and spend a lot of my time reading and writing. I have written a collection of short stories and a collection of poetry which are currently awaiting publication.
I am a very caring and kind person, and I have a strong sense of morality; I try to hold myself in my relationships to others on the values of honor, respect, kindness, compassion, and clarity no matter what happens.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been out of the tutoring game for some years now, but I tutored a few people in ESL and English a few years ago. I have a lot of experience working with people on English and ESL skills and have built curriculum specifically to my students' needs almost each time I've tutored. When I was in middle school, I helped kids in the younger grades with reading, spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension, as well as some of the kids closer to my age with their homework and difficulties they were having in English class.
Tutoring Approach:
I take a compassionate, client-focused approach to teaching. I want to make sure that my student feels comfortable not just with the material we're going over, but with me as well. I want to get to know my students and have our lessons be a safe space for them to grow, learn, make mistakes, and have fun. I assess my students' best modes of learning, strengths, weaknesses, and build my practice student-to-student, based on their current level in the subject and their specific needs. I never shame or punish my student for making a mistake. I encourage them to accept that their mistakes are part of how they grow, and there is nothing wrong with making a mistake.
I am Autistic and have had some brain injuries in the past, and I spend a lot of time learning about Autism - just for myself, really - so I have a lot of knowledge and experience of neurodivergence and how neurological differences can affect people's learning capacities and give them differences in learning that may make school harder. I have worked with people and children with disabilities - from Autism, ADHD, and PTSD, to neuromotor difficulties, immune system disorders, and hearing impairments. I am very happy to work with you and your specific needs to come up with a system and mode of tutoring that works for you and gives you the skills you need to be successful and happy. I will always do my best to be understanding of your specific situation and learn what I can about you so that I can support you to the fullest of my ability.
