Personal Description:
I was born in Victoria, British Columbia but was raised in St. Catharines, Ontario. Two years ago, my partner Josh and I drove across the country to move to Prince George so that I could pursue my dream of being an intermediate teacher. I try to go back to Ontario at least once per year, usually at Christmas, to visit my parents and two younger brothers as I miss them very dearly. I have a passion for mathematics and music and have played the flute since I was 12 years old. I also have some experience playing the trumpet, but I will admit I still have a lot to learn! I also love to read fantasy and dystopian fiction novels, particularly Harry Potter and the Hunger Games series.
Tutoring Experience:

2014 - 2018: Student teacher from grades 4-8; working with full classes, large groups, small groups, and independently with students to support learning
2018-2019: Grade 5/6 Teacher with SD57 Prince George
2019-Present: Grade 6/7 Teacher with SD57 Prince George
Tutoring Approach:
I find that the best way to both enjoy and better understand a topic is to make it as relatable and relevant as possible. This can include game-based play to support skills once taught, word problems or examples based on real-world scenarios, and re-framing assignments and work so that it can be connected to the strengths and interests of the individual student. I also believe that positive re-enforcement and constructive feedback are essential to help push learners to reach their full potential, fully engage learners, and to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment based upon mutual respect. Furthermore, I believe that it is important to nourish both the social-emotional and academic side of a learner and strive to model a passion for lifelong learning with all of my students.
