Personal Description:
I am a 4th-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto St. George Campus double majoring in Neuroscience and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Environmental Biology. I graduated with both an english and french high school diploma as well as a french international baccalaureate (IB) diploma. I am comfortable tutoring students from kindergarten to grade 12 in either english or french in all school materials (maths, sciences, history/socials, language & literature), as well as basic language courses for adults.
Tutoring Experience:
I currently tutor a handful of students, some of which are through a volunteer-basis with the Saturday Program, hosted by the UofT's Med Society. This will be my second year volunteering with them.
Additionally, I have volunteered with the Brain Waves Association. An organization at UofT that does half-day presentations to elementary school classes educating the students on the brain, the risks of injury/trauma associated with the brain, and how to prevent such injuries. This required me to maintain the attention of 15+ students aged 8-14 on the relatively complex topic.
Finally, I was an assistant coach for a U8 water polo team. My primary responsibility was to teach the children how to swim and have confidence when swimming. This position further developed my communication skills and patience with my students.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is specific to each student as each student learns best in a different way. Whether that is to bring in a small portable whiteboard and have the student draw out diagrams and visuals that will help them learn, or take the traditional one-on-one teaching method of doing practice problems, my tutoring style can be creative and unique. My objective is to make sure the student not only understands the material but enjoys the process of learning and is encouraged to learn and continue asking questions.
