Personal Description:
Hi there,
I have an undergraduate honours degree in Public Health as well as a Masters degree in Applied Disability Studies specialized in Applied Behaviour Analysis. I am currently gaining certification hours to work as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) under the regulatory board.
The areas I cover in my tutoring sessions range from:
-Any social sciences, child and youth, social work, public health, behavioural or psychology related coursework
-Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) courses
-Mental and physical disability courses
-Essay or assignment reading, editing, proofreading
-ESL reading, writing, comprehension in all areas.
-Presentation preparation
Tutoring Experience:
My tutoring journey began in highschool (almost 12 years ago now) when I peer tutored ESL and received an award for my success in the classroom. Since then I have privately tutored friends, students, and family.
I currently work with a wide population of children and adults, ranging from able-bodied adults, youth and children attending regular primary schools, highschool, university and college, as well as ESL students in high school and post-secondary. However because of my career history and educational background, I am specialized in teaching adults, youth and children who live with a wide range of difficulties or disabilities (learning disability, physical, mental/emotional, behavioural, addictions, conduct disorders, criminal histories, and many more).
My teaching involves creating learning tools and approaches which are effective and efficient for each unique individual on an individual basis; one size of learning does not fit all!
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring and teaching is a needs based/strengths based approach. I like to identify the strengths, needs and goals of my student, and then identify the skills they require to complete this task (or the behaviours they require less of in order to reach their tutoring goals). This allows us to understand which skills they possess and which skills they require support with in order to complete the job or assignment. This way, we maximize the time we spend together. This approach leads to long-term success, versus short-term gains of me simply doing your work for you, or telling you what to do!
