Personal Description:
I am an entrepreneur in Toronto, who has my own biotech startup company. I have an MSc in pharmaceutical sciences from University of Toronto and will be pursuing an MBA in fall of 2025. I have three years of experiences in gene therapy pre-clinical research in the United States. I always find myself in leadership roles where I'm guiding people around towards success. Rather than a teacher, I like to see myself as a consultant, providing clients with tips to excel in the role, whether it's in school or at work. I prefer tutoring one-on-one, as it allows me to fully focus on one individual and can tailor the lessons to fit one person.
Tutoring Experience:
I had five years of experience as a swim instructor, life saving instructor, and first aid instructor. The age range of my students varied significantly, including 6-month-old infants all the way to retirees. These courses contained 4-8 students per class in swimming lessons, 10-15 students per class in life saving courses, and 20-30 students per class in first aid courses. I've also tutored my peers one-on-one during my undergraduate students when I was a liaison and VP in a chemistry club. I am currently a mentor at the Life Sciences Career Development Syndicate within University of Toronto. As a mentor, I meet with the mentee one-on-one to provide advice on various career paths for STEM majors. In addition, I present my work experiences at seminars and answer questions raised by graduate students.
Tutoring Approach:
I usually spend the first lesson getting to know the student, understanding their learning style and what challenges they are currently facing.
Rather than providing the student with answers, I like to spend more time giving them guidance to explore different paths so they can find the answers to a question themselves. In the event that the student cannot find the answer, I'll reveal it to them and explain why that's the answer to the question. By showing them the path to resolve problems, students have a higher chance of succeeding in academia because they've developed critical thinking.
