Personal Description:
Hi there! My name is Seraphina. I am currently in the second year of my second Masters degree through the ARCHMAT program and am a recent graduate from McMaster University and Victoria University at the University of Toronto. I studied Classics and Archaeology in my last MA and Classical Civilizations, History, and Philosophy in my undergraduate degree. I was heavily involved in student government and societies at school and I was a student mentor through the Classics department. I am an avid reader and writer (of fiction too, not just research papers!), and I enjoy drawing. I love to travel and have been lucky enough to visit many of the ancient sites I studied at university. My current degree has allowed me to live for a semester each in Portugal, Italy, and Greece. During the course of my degree I spent a year studying abroad in England at King’s College London and visited many countries in Europe from there. After graduating, I participated in two archaeological digs and travelled Europe for five months. My love for Classics, history, and art has given me an intense admiration of museums and my ideal day includes a visit to a museum! I hope I can inspire you to love what you're learning and encourage your interest in the past, as well as helping with your studies.
I am currently living in Greece in Thessaloniki, so I am only offering online tutoring sessions. Please contact me through email!
Tutoring Experience:
During my first MA, I was a Teaching Assistant for four tutorial sections during Covid, so I have some experience teaching online. I participated as a mentor in the Classics Students' Union mentorship project at the University of Toronto and helped my mentee with writing papers, research skills, and Ancient Greek. I also worked as a camp counsellor at Harbourfront Summer Camps, which I think will also help me create a fun and informative learning environment.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring depends mostly on the learning style of the tutee. I really enjoy learning and researching, so I endeavour to inspire the same love of knowledge in my student. For example, before the pandemic I began tutoring a student on this platform and we focused on the books they were interested in as a guide for our study of history.
As a Classicist, I can give background on the culture and time period while tutoring Latin and Koine Greek, which will help add life and colour to these dead languages.
