Personal Description:

I work in the software industry in a business development roll for a small British Columbian company called Sparkgeo Consutling. I also tutor for a local tutoring centre in Penticton, BC called 360 learning academy. I have a background in finance and worked for many years in the mortgage industry and financial planning, I also worked for many years in implementing business management systems in businesses across North America. I enjoy tutoring for the job satisfaction of seeing my students succeed. I work from home and can easily fit a remote tutoring session into my calendar at work.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored on and off for 5 years or so when I first realized this was a passion. I have tutored Math and some Physics to a grade 11 level.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy making a personal connection with my students. I generally, find out the topic they are working on and do some teaching on the subject matter at hand. Through this I generally identify some weaknesses in the students knowledge base. For example, their times tables are weak, they don't understand fractions. Also, the first session usually involves determining their learning style and study habits and interests. I try to adapt my teaching style to encompass the student's interests, hobbies and take into account their learning style. There really is no substitute for teaching in person, however, of late I have been helping a couple of my students through zoom and we are able to make it work. Our centre has slowed down so I am looking for some additional students outside of our direct geographic area. I do have a contract with the Tutoring centre for local work and any student I am helping in person would need to go through the tutoring centre 360 learning academy at $50/hour, to avoid a conflict of interest.
