Information About Scott
Saanich tutorPersonal Description:
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006 with a major in history and a minor in political science. I graduated with distinction and my G.P.A. was in the "A" range by the time that I graduated. I am currently working towards a Bachelors of Social Work and I am looking for some part-time income while I am in school. My area or expertise is the Twentieth Century, especially focusing on World War II and the wars in Indochina.
Tutoring Experience:
I was enrolled in the Masters program in History at the University of Victoria and I worked as a teaching assistant from 2006-2008. While working as a teaching assistant, I led seminars and marked assignments for the students. In addition, in March of 2013, I taught a wood finishing seminar to a large group of students at Lee Valley Tools in Victoria, B.C.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to approach history as the story of humanity. Rather than having a student memorize a list of dates and facts, I approach the teaching of history by showing the manner in which the facts are connected to each other through a cause-and-effect relationship. I strongly believe the value of positive reinforcement, focusing on a student's strengths, rather than his or her difficulties.
