Personal Description:
Hello. I am Sahil, a Master's graduate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta with a CGPA of 4.00/4.00. I hail from India and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, one of the prestigious institutes for engineering. In the past, I have spent over a year working in the R&D division of Honda Cars building and designing powertrains for different engines. I am a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills. Moreover, I have good exposure to diverse cultures and broad leadership experience through various professional experiences and co-curricular activities.
Tutoring Experience:
I have extensive tutoring experience in the past through a variety of roles. During my undergrad, I volunteer for teaching mathematics and science to students in 6th-Grade to 10th-Grade in nearby public schools. During my summer vacations, I have also tutored 11th and 12th-grade students planning for the engineering entrance examination. I twice did a teaching assistantship for the fourth-year undergrad course in Mechanical Engineering with 100+ class strength where I conducted problem-solving seminars for students. I also completed level one of the Graduate Teaching and Learning Program offered at the University of Alberta to further develop my teaching and communication skills. Through these tutoring and learning experiences, I am quick at identifying the student's needs and adapt a suitable teaching methodology that's fit them best. I am a friendly person and can teach students all age groups. I love to impart the knowledge I have gathered over past years working in different professional roles. I am passionate about helping students to improve academically, develop their problem-solving skills and gain a better understanding of the subject in hand.
Tutoring Approach:
I think of myself as a coach and encourage to build confidence. I like to engage students in deep processing where they understand the idea and meaning behind what they learn and develop the skills. I prefer to ask relevant questions rather than just explaining to involve students in deeper learning. I approach different pupils depending upon their preferred learning style.
