Personal Description:
Hi, I am Sahil, a current Master of Business Administration (MBA) international student at Schulich School of Business, York University. Before coming into this MBA program, I worked as a maritime engineer for almost a decade onboard Foreign-Going cargo ships for a major shipping company named BW Group based in Singapore. I pursued this career after completing a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani, which is one of the premier higher study institutions in India.
During my ongoing MBA program, I have also worked two internships in Toronto, the first being at the Royal Bank of Canada and the other being at Ontario Power Generation.
I built my academic acumen from a young age, performing consistently well during my school years in all subjects. I achieved 93% marks in my grade 10th examinations conducted by the ICSE Board in India, and thereafter 87% marks in my grade 12th CBSE Board examinations in India. My concentration was in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Computers during my grade 11 and 12 years. I also have an IELTS band of 8.0 and a GMAT Score of 650. The GMAT is one of the toughest graduate admission tests for securing admission to MBA programs globally.
During my early years, I remember my family faced huge financial challenges, which made me extremely motivated to turn the tide by focusing on my school studies and pursuing a strong career. Over the years, I have seen this motivation pay off, and have witnessed that education has the power to transform lives. I intend to use this passion to bring positive change in students now, not only to help them achieve short-term academic objectives but also to long-term satisfaction and success in life.
Tutoring Experience:
I have never worked as a professional teacher at a school, but have been able to transform the lives of multiple students by personally tutoring them in multiple subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, History, Computers and English. All my students were based in India, my native country. Since I have not taught in Canada yet, I am open to this experience and trust I will be able to deliver as required of me.
I am fluent in English and my native language Hindi.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that if a tutor truly wants to bring a change in a student, it is imperative to understand where the child is struggling. The problem may lie in fundamentals such as multiplication and division in a subject like Mathematics, or else understanding the link between two concepts taught in different chapters in the same Physics book, or else simply in applying the concepts to solve problems in textbooks or the real world. Therefore, I intend to begin by establishing open communication and mutual respect. I believe this will help me find the root cause of the various signs (academic difficulties) that the student displays by helping the student speak up without fear. I am willing to give to decent amount of time to find such gaps.
Thereafter, I will draw a lesson plan and execute it to not only focus on the concept being taught but also on simultaneously eliminating the basic problems identified.
