Personal Description:

I am a highly experienced educator, having taught for over 15 years at the university level. I have a PhD in Classical Studies, and am passionate about the field. In addition to Latin, I also have experience teaching Ancient History, society, mythology, ancient literature, and ancient drama. I can also provide guidance and feedback about the university experience, including applications, writing and research techniques, preparations required to succeed.

I am also fluent in Mandarin, if you prefer to communicate in that language.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught at a Canadian University for over 15 years, both as a professor and as a tutorial leader. I also have 4 years of one-on-one tutoring experience when I was completing my PhD. I am very well-versed in the field of Classics, and have taught on a number of subjects in the field. Beyond the classroom, I have also led students on an expedition to Italy, where the study of Roman history was accompanied by on-site visits to enhance the educational value of the course.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning Latin, and indeed learning anything about the Ancient World, comes with a difficult set of challenges. Because we are so divorced from the subjects that we are studying, both chronologically and culturally, it can be difficult to bridge that gap. My aim has always been to help students find their own appreciation for what we are studying, and in turn to develop their own avenues to success. This can take different forms depending on the student - some like a more structured approach, others prefer more free form interaction, and some are more interested in finding relatability. Whichever approach we take, it has always been about determining the needs of the student, and finding ways to nourish their interests.
