Information About Robert
Ottawa tutorPersonal Description:
I have a wide variety of teachable STEM subjects and am passionate about helping and teaching/tutoring/mentoring students. In addition to Chemistry and Civil/Geomatics Engineering degrees, my passion for teaching is exemplified by having taken two gradua**Contact Detail Removed**vel courses in the faculty of education at the University of Ottawa. Following graduation first with a B.Sc. in Chemistry (minor Physics) I followed by a Masters in geomatics engineering from the University of Calgary and then a B.Sc.Civil Engineering where I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Ottawa. I have worked in the radar signal processing from space for civil infrastructure projects using satellite radar acquisitions and am particularly interested in exposing students to wider vistas to set longer term goals while helping them solve their own immediate educational requirements.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a teaching assistant for a total of 10 (3-month) semesters where I solved problems for civil engineering students (statics, strength of materials, dynamics, statistics, water resources and highway engineering) and received an outstanding TA nomination while completing a certificate in teaching assistantship skills specializing in blended classroom learning techniques. I have also been in charge of the laboratory section of strength of materials.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is one where I first work with the student to try to assess their needs before delving into lesson plans. Once I understand their needs and their learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic etc) I can craft a set of lesson plans or strategies in order to help them complete their homework. At the same time, I think it is important to occasionally drop ideas as to what avenues or careers are available to them when they are interested in solving particular problems. I believe exposure to wider vistas of knowledge can help the student understand their potential in society as well as increase personal motivation.
