Personal Description:
As a Native English Speaker, I have helped many individuals people - from places like Japan, Korea, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, and Haiti - improve their conversational and written English.
I have graduated with an Undergraduate degree in Sciences, but my passion continues to be to coach and tutor others in useful skills such as languages, arts, and social skills so that they can pursue their dreams.
Living in a French-English bilingual city for the past 12 years, working on the University campus as well as in customer service, I have continued to develop my proficiency in the French Language and an appreciation for the culture.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring my brothers in languages and maths from a very young age. I created a curriculum for my brother to improve his French skills over the summer holidays. I have been teaching and leading others for about 25 years, in extra-curricular activities like Girl Guides and Sunday school, and in education within a Special Needs class. In University, I was a mentor and leader among peers in personal development and religious studies.
Since graduating in 2007, I have been mentoring and teaching children and adults as Children's Ministry Coordinator where I would lead training, mentor individuals, and teach the children. I have also been inspiring my coworkers towards personal development and excellent customer service as a **Contact Detail Removed** Supervisor and Assistant Store Manager. The company's mission is to Inspire the Human Spirit from the leadership down to the barista and required constant and ongoing tutoring from myself and each management team.
For the past 8 years, on a part-time basis, I have been tutoring individuals in English and French language skills outside of the classroom in private sessions.
Tutoring Approach:
As a life-long language and culture enthusiast, I continue to learn languages and explore cultures through friendship and community. I hope to impart to my students some of my love for languages and excitement to speak out with confidence even in our second or third languages.
I have helped individuals gain confidence in communicating their thoughts and sharing their stories. I supply articles, questions, and situations which help to fuel a conversation that is pertinent to their everyday lives. We discuss difficult words, idioms, and pronunciation depending on the needs of the individual. I prefer to build the session around the interests and needs of the individual while preparing related materials based on shared information.
I want to make learning fun and will include topics or make suggestions based on the interests of the individual. Although not required, I always suggest that a language learner engage with the language daily and especially output the language frequently. I can suggest YouTube videos, TV/movies, and books that will make learning enjoyable!
I have a knack for Math and have spent years enjoying Science. I believe that these interests are built from a young age and would love to help your children explore these subjects! I would focus on hands-on lessons and fun ways to help their curiosity grow!
