Personal Description:
Learning isn't always easy but that shouldn't stop anyone from reaching their full potential.
I am currently in my final year of York University's Bachelor of Education program and focussed on the primary and junior divisions (K - Gr. 6). Upon graduating in 2020, I will be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.
I believe that students' mental states greatly influence their readiness to take in new knowledge. I have a Bachelor of Social Work degree which influences my ability to help students learn to cope with common issues (e.g. anxiety, depression, bullying, self-esteem).
Tutoring Experience:
I have been working with children in varying capacities for over 10 years.
More recently, I was an ESL tutor throughout the summer of 2019 where I managed classes of students aged 8-13 years. Simultaneously, I was a camp counselor and co-facilitated large and small group activities for children aged 6-14 years.
At the moment, I teach a math for students in grades 1 & 2 and reading to students in grades 3 to 5.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to learning is based on the framework of differentiated instruction and assessment. This means that each student will receive tutoring that is specific to the student's individual needs. I also believe that every student should be given the opportunities and tools to reach her/his full potential. As a tutor, my goal is to work as a guide through each student's learning journey.
