Personal Description:
I have a B.A. in English, having graduated with first class honours, and I also have an M.A. in Communications from the University of Ottawa.
Tutoring Experience:
Since 2017, I have tutored English and math both in-person and online to students of all grade levels, from Grade 2 to high school and even university level English. I took math through high school and was a peer tutor for a Grade 9 math class; I also received an A in a university-level math (statistics) class.
I was also a T.A. at the University of Ottawa for two English grammar courses, teaching first year university students about grammar and writing style, helping them improve their writing, and marking and grading their work.
I have years of experience with writing and editing, which I am able to draw on when helping students with their writing. My communications thesis was published in a research journal, and I later wrote a chapter in a book which I co-edited. As a freelance writer, my articles have been published in newspapers and magazines. My current job at a magazine includes writing and editing content for newsletters.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe each student has the potential to improve in every subject. I look for each student's interests and strengths and build on them, tailoring my approach to the student and incorporating their interests and passions into my tutoring sessions whenever possible.
