Personal Description:
NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR THE FALL! Get a head start on the 2020/21 school year.
Bonjour et bienvenue! My name is Oliver and I strive to make learning French enjoyable and approachable for everyone. No matter your skill level or background, everyone can learn French. I have taught both immersion and core French at the elementary and secondary levels, and currently teach French full-time in Hamilton. Typically, I would come to you, but with COVID-19, I am more than happy meeting with you or your child remotely!
A bit about me - I completed my Masters of Teaching in 2017 from the University of Toronto and finished my BA with Honours at the University of Ottawa in 2014. I have experience with the IB program, Core/Extended/Immersion French programs, and ESL Learners.
Tutoring Experience:
I am an experienced OCT-certified teacher who is committed to seeing my students succeed.
With professional teaching experience in China and in Ontario, I have taught at a range of levels and in diverse environments. As well, I have tutored IB and AP courses. I was an IB student in high-school and a high-achieving student in university. I love learning, but teaching is even more fun!
Most importantly, I am passionate about French language/culture and spreading that love! I HATED learning languages when I was younger, but now I work to help students come to love languages as much as I do. I am fluent in French and intermediate Italian, with a (small) spattering of Tagalog and Mandarin for good measure!
Tutoring Approach:
For me, language learning should be active, creative, and personal. Building on what students have already learned, either by reintroducing or reviewing material, we use French as much as we can, with an eye to building CONFIDENCE when using these new language abilities and KNOWLEDGE for when it is appropriate to apply them.
As a tutor, it is important for me to make lessons that work in conjunction with what students are learning in their classes, so that they can master what they are being tested on at the present, before we turn to more advanced and future topics.
Above all, I am flexible. I do what works for the students and I strive to help them find what works best for them. Learning is not just about doing well on tests or getting a good mark, it is mastering and applying skills that can be used FOR LIFE.
