Personal Description:

I am about to graduate from the University of Toronto with a bachelors in Cognitive Science. In the fall I will be attending the Ontario Institute for Child Studies and Education. This program will certify me to be an Ontario teacher. I have a special interest in teaching math and have taken a number of courses at U of T on how to effectively teach math at the elementary school level.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently volunteer at a music school and I used to TA for my old high school in their math and biology classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the student should feel comfortable with the concepts being taught and with whoever is teaching them. I believe that as a tutor, I should work towards a trusting relationship with my students to allow for the most knowledge transfer. I start where the student is comfortable, and I have them work up from there at their speed. I have found that this strategy often allows for the greatest increase in success. I also encourage a genuine understanding of concepts to allow for in-depth learning. I rely greatly on research to find proven techniques for teaching different material.
