Information About Nathaniel
Vaughan tutorPersonal Description:
I am a 4th year Electrical Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. My cumulative average over the last two years is 89.2%. I have extensive experience in tutoring/teaching; most of my experience is from tutoring high school students, and some university students. I can also help with IB level courses as I am an IB graduate.
Tutoring Experience:
Teaching high school calculus class: I taught derivatives using the product rule to a class of over 30 grade 12 students. Answered questions and solved problems on the board as they arose.
Student mentoring: I virtually mentored two university engineering students on a bi-weekly basis during the Covid-19 lockdown. Helped students with study tips, strategies to find co-op placements, and occasionally explained topics from classes
Peer tutoring in high school: I tutored multiple students in subjects such as general science, computer science, advanced functions, calculus, vectors, data management, and general math. Students steadily improved their grades after consistently being tutored by me. Tutored over 80 hours cumulatively between all my students,
Tutoring Approach:
Instead of immediately solving problems, I ensure the student has a solid understanding of the process and the theory of the material. This will help ensure that the student will be able to solve problems they have not encountered in the past. Once the understanding is there, I give practice problems to help solidify the material in their mind. I prefer to bring the student my own material instead of solely solving homework problems they have been assigned by their teachers, although I will also help with their homework problems when needed.
