Personal Description:
I am a very active person. I cycle and hike many times a week. I love music; I play guitar, trumpet, piano, and sing a lot! I am 20 years old and have been to college a couple times but decided to drop out so I can work towards becoming a teacher. I work mainly at Blue Mountain as a camp counsellor ins the summer and a ski and snowboard teacher in the winter. Because of Covid-19 summer camp might not happen so I though tutoring could be a great opportunity.
My perfect life situation is living somewhere with many mountains for cycling, hiking, skiing, etc. Somewhere away from the city being an elementary school teacher living in a small house with a lot of space for my future kids to play and explore.
Tutoring Experience:
The only formal experience I have is volunteer work a**Contact Detail Removed**mentary schools where I helped kids with various subjects from K-grade 8 for a SHORT duration. I have other informal experience with ranging ages of children.
I am working towards my dream job of Elementary School Teacher and think that casual tutoring would be a great learning experience for both the kids and myself.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring starts with motivation. Kids won't learn if they do not want to. Those who excel have strong support from someone who makes learning more than just words on a page. A strong support is someone who gives a child the necessary tools to succeed and someone who allows children to make mistakes in order to learn :)
The process starts by getting to know the student. If a child does not know or trust a tutor or teacher the child may be anxious and can significantly affect how they learn. When a student respects the tutor, the student will likely want to seek guidance from the tutor.
In short, giving kids the necessary skills to succeed, creating a fun and friendly environment, and not giving them more than they can handle are fundamentals to student success :)
Although maths, sciences, and the arts are my academic strengths I excel in working with kids. I have been working with kids for about 4-5 years now in summer camps, ski school, daycare, elementary schools, etc and have learned a lot about how to approach a child when teaching something, when they have anxiety symptoms, when disciplining, and many other situations I have encountered over the years.
