Personal Description:
I'm a Master's student at U of T doing an MSc in Geophysics. Most of all, I love helping other people learn; I've been lucky enough to TA several courses over the last few years, and I relish any opportunity to help one of my classmates understand a topic I'm more familiar with, strictly for the enjoyment of seeing how excited they get when something they've been stuck on finally clicks. I'm fascinated (often to the point of distraction) by problems I run into in my daily life, and invest a fair fraction of my spare time into tinkering with them either mathematically or with computers. When I'm not doing that, I enjoy the more geological aspects of my life, whether that means studying rocks, climbing up them, or just getting out there.
Tutoring Experience:
Teaching Assistant - University of Toronto
Non-seismic Geophysical Imaging (2020) - Also lectured and created assignments for this course
Geophysical Field Techniques (2018, 2019)
Structural Geology (2017)
I have a few years of experience tutoring friends and classmates informally in geology, math, physics, and computer science.
Tutoring Approach:
I don't really have a fixed approach - I'm willing to try as many ways of explaining a subject as necessary to help my students understand in a way that works best. I do like to use a lot of analogies/examples from everyday life to explain mathematical and physical concepts. I also generally try to focus more on understanding how methods work (especially geometrically) instead of getting caught up on rote memorization of steps.
