Personal Description:
A bit about myself (always so awkward!). I have a lot of diverse yet fascinating experience. I have a Masters in Sociology; I am a certified English as a Foreign Language teacher (from England); and a trained rough carpenter.
I have two delightful kittens (sisters) and a black lab named Della.
I find everything interesting and have a great curiosity about people, places, and how things work. I am also a tech geek who enjoys a good joke.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught English as a Second Language for a number of years, both in classroom settings and one-to-one lessons. I worked as a Writing Consultant at the University of Guelph's Writing Centre while I was completing my graduate degree.
I was a Teaching Assistant for Introductory Statistics (Social Sciences) and Police in Society (Sociology) during my graduate years. I also tutored Intro Statistics for two terms.
I developed and hosted a number of workshops for international students through the Writing Centre to focus on academic writing, grammar, and pronunciation skills.
I spent one term teaching Introductory Sociology at an Ontario college but could not take on another term once I began doing healthcare research at the University of Toronto.
Additionally, I am versed in American, Canadian, and British English; spoken, spelling, and context.
Tutoring Approach:
Successful learning. I adapt my teaching style to your learning skills. We would build upon the skills that you have and add to them in a way that makes most sense to you.
I like to take the mystery out of studying, tests, and writing essays. I share strategies that will build your confidence and help you succeed.
