Information About Mike
Ottawa tutorPersonal Description:
I am an undergraduate chemistry student at the University of Ottawa.
Tutoring Experience:
Leading study groups, making review guides for groups, 1:1 tutoring in chemistry and math, ACT, SAT, and AP test prep.
Tutoring Approach:
Being as young as I am, I just went through high school and getting into college. I know what information will be high yield for your grade and exactly what schools are testing for. Almost every session will include some review of the material and further explanation of any theory. I will then walk you through a couple of example questions that should broadly cover the subject we are looking at. From those questions we will create a short a concise 'note sheet' that has any useful information or formulas you may need for the topic. From there I will have chosen some of the hardest questions from your exercises and you will do most of the leading. I find that tutors who hold your hand are not very effective so there does need to be some struggle so as to properly practice something. Once these questions are done we will look through past exams together and look at how the topics in these questions may be used on a test. More often than not, your hardest exercises are not reflective of what will be on the test, but knowing how to do them will cut out unneeded study time of easier questions.
