Information About Miharu
Mississauga tutorPersonal Description:
Hi there! My name is Miharu and I am a current undergraduate student at the Unversity of Toronto. I am studying with a double major in Equity Studies and Human Geography. I am also working towards a minor in Education and Society. I have a huge love for the social sciences and arts. As a social sciences student, I write essays practically every week. I've grown to love researching and writing. Also, I am always happy to speak to high school (particularly IB Program) experiences as well as university experiences. I value participation and engagement, so I am always happy to help in being active in your community. Equity and accessibility are both extremely important to me, so I always strive to ensure that I provide a safe and happy environment for everyone. I am a very active person who loves to generate enthusiasm, especially in academics! I do not want tutoring sessions to be a cause for stress. I hope to bring some genuine excitement to learning and teaching. I hope this helped you learn more about me!
Tutoring Experience:
I had volunteered at a youth Sunday School (as a teacher) for over 6 years, up until 2014. Since then, I have taken on roles as a volunteer tutor in my own high school (2014-2018). I am a current academic advisor at the University of Toronto, helping fellow students in academic wayfinding and resource collection. I have been an active member of several youth summer camps aimed at educating students on both academic and social skills. I have also volunteered as a student-partner for younger children with disabilities.
Tutoring Approach:
Again, my major philosophy aims to create an equitable and accessible environment. I hope to engage with my students in a way that best fits their needs. I find great benefits in ensuring honest and clear communication, as well as hands-on experiences. I always welcome questions, and rarely get frustrated. I understand that academics can be a challenging topic or experience, and I hope to provide a means to generate enthusiasm. I generally hold online sessions. This would be done through online video chat functions. Tutoring can be a lengthy process, and I always want to ensure the option to follow-up. I create a very open and communicative environment, so I am always happy to follow-up with suggestions that work best for the student.
