Information About Michele
Guelph tutorPersonal Description:
I am a retired secondary school teacher with an interest in lifelong learning. I have taught both adolescents and adults in high school and college settings. I believe that all teachers are teachers of English so will correct grammar and spelling in whatever subject is being taught. I am very patient and have a good sense of humour. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn but that there often needs to be flexibility in the teaching style to accommodate different learning styles.
Tutoring Experience:
Retired in 2016 after 31 years teaching at the secondary and post secondary level. Secondary subject specifics include intermediate/senior Science, Biology and Computer Science. Currently tutoring at risk adults as well as offering ESL to newcomers through not for profit groups. Taught computer courses for adult learners at a local college.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is to work one on one with learners using different instructional techniques or styles which are discovered over time and through trial and error. There is no single approach that works for everyone. I am a good listener and able to break complex concepts down into simpler blocks then rebuild the larger concept. Even though I have retired from professional teaching I continue to work as a volunteer with adult learners through local not for profit organizations because I firmly believe that learning is a life long process.
